IDAHO ACADEMY OF SCIENCE
The name of this organization shall be the Idaho Academy of Science.
The purpose of this Academy shall be: to stimulate scientific education and research; to disseminate scientific knowledge across the various fields of science and to the general public; to promote fraternal relationship among those engaged in scientific work; and to unify the scientific interests of the State.
Section 1. The categories of membership, the manner of nomination and election to all membership grades of the Academy and provisions concerning fees, or the changing of such provisions, shall be incorporated in the Bylaws of the Academy in the regular manner.
Section 2. Regular, Life, Emeritus and Sustaining Members shall enjoy voting privileges.
Section 1. The elected officers of the Academy shall be President, Vice President/President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Trustees. These officers shall be elected by polling the members who are currently entitled to vote in advance of the Annual Meeting. Elected officers shall hold offices as follows: President and Vice President/President Elect, one year; Secretary and Treasurer, two years, or until their successors have been elected and are duly qualified; Trustees, 3 years, at least one to be elected each year.
Section 2. The above officers shall perform the duties usually pertaining to their respective offices as defined in the Bylaws.
Section 3. Appointed officers shall be: Retort editor, Journal editor, Historian, Executive Director, and Representative to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and National Association of Academies of Science (NAAS). They shall be appointed by the President and their terms of office defined by the Bylaws.
Section 4. Rules governing elections shall be such as are laid down in the Bylaws.
Section 1. The time and place of all meetings shall be determined by the Executive Committee, but there shall be at least one meeting annually for the presentation and discussion of papers, at which time there shall also be a general business meeting and a meeting of the Executive Committee.
Section 2. Two months’ notice shall be given for the annual business and program meetings, and those present at such meetings shall constitute a quorum.
The official publications of the Academy shall be, the Journal of the Idaho Academy of Science and the Retort Newsletter. The Editorial Committee shall consist of the Editor of the Journal and the Editor of the Retort, with the addition of an editorial board, composed of persons from the various fields of science represented in the Academy, appointed by the Journal Editor with the approval of the President of the Academy and shall be subject to the general control of the Executive Committee.
This Constitution and Bylaws may be amended by an affirmative vote of three quarters of the members voting. If voting becomes necessary at a time other than the annual business meeting, the Executive Director will poll the membership at the request of the Executive Committee or upon presentation of a petition by 10% of the membership in favor of an amendment.
In matters not covered by this Constitution and Bylaws, Roberts Rules of Order (current edition) shall prevail.
